What hard or untreated water looks like

On kettle elements, shower glass, around tap spouts. That is the same deposit forming inside your water heater.

You use more detergent, more shampoo, and everything still feels filmy afterwards.

Iron. Shows up in toilets, sinks and on laundry. Very common on wells in this part of the county.

How we approach it
We will not sell you a softener before we know what is in your water
Every well in York County is different, sometimes house to house on the same road. Hardness, iron, sulfur, pH and bacteria are five separate problems with five different answers, and a softener only solves one of them.
So we test first. Then we tell you what is actually in it, what is worth treating, and what you can leave alone. Sometimes the answer is a softener. Sometimes it is an iron filter, or a neutraliser, or nothing at all beyond a sediment cartridge you change twice a year.
If you have just replaced a water heater that died early, this is the conversation worth having before the new one goes the same way. Treating the water is usually cheaper than replacing appliances on the schedule untreated water sets.

Pricing
What moves the price
- What the test finds — one problem or three.
- Household size and flow — sizing a softener too small is the most common mistake we see on existing installs.
- Where it goes — plumbing it in near the pressure tank is straightforward; a finished basement is more work.
- Drain and power access — softeners need somewhere to discharge and an outlet.
Flat price in writing before we start. And if the test says you do not need treating, we will tell you that too — it is a short conversation but an honest one.
